The D still needs a lot of help
written by Bob, March 31, 2010
Our D was pathetic last year. While signing Rolle was a good move, much more is needed. The draft will not solve all our needs, even if we get Mc Clain. More work in free agency is needed. Kenny Philips cannot be relied on at the moment.

I don't agree with Mel "Widow's Peak" Kiper Jr. about Eli not being able to carry the offense if he needs to. When your defense lets up that many points I don't care what quarterback you have you're not going to win games.

thanks interesting interview...i think obviously the giants are thinking in terms of making this a super bowl team NOW...certainly coughlin has to be thinking that way....and that makes it hard, only because we still have a lot of holes to fill, and it is hard to rely on more than a couple of rookies.....had we signed dansby AND rolle we would have been sitting pretty....we only got rolle...on defense it is a no brainer if rolando mcclain is there at pick number 15....if he is not, and we don't trade up, everything is wide open in my opinion because there are really no classic, traditional linebackers left who deserve to be picked at that spot....and that is what we need...then we have to decide whether to trade down, or if we stay D at that spot take someone like sergio kindle, brandon graham, joe haden (probably gone), brian price, or dan williams....or maybe jean pierre paul if we decide that osi is going to be more trouble than he is worth.....it would be bold to go offense, but obviously cj spiller or bryan bulaga would be awfully tempting...and i don't think any of us would be crushed with such a pick....i still love the idea of trading down, trying to get a sean weatherspoon or a brian price later in round 1, and picking up an extra number 2 or number 3.....with the three picks in round 2 and 3 we get can look at several options, including LB, DT, S RB or OL depending on what we do later in round 1.....this is our best bet to win a super bowl THIS COMING YEAR.....if we are looking at a two year program, well maybe we think differently...certainly bulaga or spiller would be looking awfully good to me in round 1 then....

Bob- I agree we have a lot of holes on defense. At his year end presser, Reese stated he is not going to blow this team up. He thinks they can win with what they have plus add additional pieces. It is my understanding the Giants think they can win this year.

Harry- Mel has only a short term memory. Eli carried us to an improbable championship. Without Eli's superb play, Giants do not win a Super Bowl.

Irish- I love your comments. Keep them coming. I do not think McClain will fall to us. And I do not think the Giants should trade up for him.
