McClain's pro day
Written by Paul Burke

Per NFL.com McClain has announced he suffers from Crohn's disease since High School.

In a nutshell Crohn's disease is an inflammatory disease of the intestines that is the immune system attacks the digestive system.  Although not degenerative in nature it requires a strict lifestyle and diet to manage.  Medications are significant but diet and discipline to adhere to it are apparently as important.

This will hurt his position in the draft as there is a calculated gamble with a reliance on him remaining diligent and disciplined to the lifestyle to contain the heightening of this disease.  Based on this who cannot be more of a fan of McClain as he is obviously more than an intelligent, hard working, elite athlete but also a very disciplined individual?  To me his stock goes up and who wouldn’t be more than willing and happy to gamble on this individual?

By the way he got into the 4.6s on the 40 and is targeting 4.5 by this weekend.  He has been ailed with a hammy since October unbeknownst to his teammates.

A lot happened today-pro days

I agree Paul.McClain is going to be a good one. He should not be affected at this stage of his life. Andrea's mother has Crohn's and it can be a problem later in life. The docs say he is good to go. Mt. Cody has lost weight and we may not have a shot at him as he could go anywhere from late first to early third. Most nose guys are two down player's so that is just more drivel. We have to have a good nose and we know it. I was happy to see that Coughlin was present at Alabama's pro day. He was at the combine so,he is personally involved which is good.
A number of schools had their pro day today and those that chose not to show made news as well. The kid from Rutgers(Davis) is going to drop as he didn't work the combine and didn't work today. Okla State had their day too and Okung was great. The Bengals passed on Owens and signed another head case. It's Antonio Bryant. Tomlinson visited the Vikes but,he should bow out gracefully ala Brown,Payton and Sanders. There is a nose at North Carolina who is 330lbs and might deserve another look for the middle rounds. North Carolina under Butch Davis is a very good program. Butch was a big fan of Nicks and he was right. Wonder what he has to say.
Watching the NFL network is tough. They make a lot of mistakes and Deion,Mayock,Billick and some others are very annoying and seem full of it. We'll see. There is more coming down and the Crohn's thing was a shocker. I am working on my list and challenge Falconer to do the same. I am just a guy but my fellow writer's and the people who visit here make it the best blog anywhere. Andy was quoted by the Eagles blog as a top guy. Glen is a great addition and Wonder when he comes out of hiding is truly amazing. We're going to get better and with you commenting and contributing it will ROCK. Stay tuned!

Screw Mt. Cody! The guy is 348 lbs and cant even bench 225 more than 22 times. I did 24 reps when I was 210 4 years ago. Now that Im 220 guaranteed I would do at least 26/27 probably 28. To me that is weak and shows laziness. I mean I know its after a season and you don't lift much during the season but he's had 3 months to lift and workout! And still only puts up 225 22x's. That's weak! Watching him at his workout with his titties flappin around he just didn't seem too mean or athletic. I do realize he is young and could blossom but come on! You're a professional athlete you weigh 350 lbs and you can only bench 225 22 times. Mind you the same was said about the kid from LSU that the Chiefs took 6th overall last year and look how he did this year. He sucked! He got abused and played opposite of Glenn Dorsey! I like when we draft athletes, not fat blobs because of their size. We have no purpose for Mt. Cody we don't run a 3-4. On Andy's draft scale I'd still probably rate him 3-4 based on how he played Football in college.

And his size could stop up run gaps but I'd rather not take him with our 1st or 2nd round picks which is where he will land.

Good debate. It makes me even more curious to see where Wonder "weighs" in on this as well. The beauty of all of this is that we will have a record. There will be no hiding for anyone who wants the props. Time will judge. There will be a 3 year AND a 5 year eval.
This may be good news...

Perhaps a question regarding McClain's health will let him drop into the Giants' laps. Based on his college career, clearly he has managed the disease well, and it shouldn't affect him in the pros. My wife has a variant of Crohn's and lives a healthy, normal life, drug-free after a surgery. She has to manage her diet carefully, but that's it. Typically, the disease onsets those in their late teens and early twenties, so the fact that he was diagnosed early is a great thing, and he'll have the best care money can buy as a pro. He thrived in Nick Saban's punishing system (and the Alabama heat), so his toughness should be unquestioned. I've seen some draftniks mention that he wouldn't be a good fit in a 4-3 defense, but I think that's hogwash. He's athletically elite, smart, and a true leader, so he can adjust to the 4-3. He may even be a force as an outside linebacker if the Giants decide to go after Bulluck or Brackett. A similar adjustment would be harder for Mt. Cody, I think, but there's no denying his immovability. His lack of versatility should raise a red flag, though, and I can't imagine that he wouldn't be a pretty big risk for round two.
Really!

Did any of you see Cody play this year? I saw him 3-4 times. Sure,he's huge but he is incfredibly athletic and when I saw him he was dominant. I mean I saw the guy block 3 field goal attempts by penetrating and jumping.
To my friend the body builder. McCoy did 22 reps at the combine and is expected to go #1 or #2. What do you have to say about that? It's always more pleasant to see a chisled guy but many can't play worth a damn. The Nose spot is ALWAYS manned by a guy who has a gut and weighs a ton. Hampton,Wilfork,et al are not exactly svelte. Cody may or may not make it but I can say without reservation that he is one of the most athletic, quick Noses I havfe seen in years!
YES!

Same thing I think McCoy is overrated big time. I've watched him play plenty too, bud. I live in Texas. And the fact he did 22 reps is pretty weak. I think he'll be good and he's quick has good moves and you're right weightlifting doesn't have much to do with a players skillset in FOOTBALL. And if you read further into what I said, Cody is a good football player and basing his talent as a football player he is good. Just watching his workouts and intensity I don't want him on the G Men nor do I think he would fit our defense very well at all. He is suited for a 3-4 D at nose tackle.

And its funny you made a comment quoting exactly what I said to someone else about Cody that "did you actually see him play this year" I said that to someone else when I was suggesting we take him in the 1st rd. and they were ripping him about Cody are you serious. And I said the same thing you're trying to say to me. Only, I said the guy probably only saw Cody play in the nat'l championship where he necessarily didn't have a strong game but he drew double teams which free'd up the rest of the line. I've seen many SEC games and Bama games including the Bama vs. Tennessee game you're talking about and the last field goal in that game he blocked to win, the kicker kicked the ball right into him. I said he's a good FOOTBALL player. However, in college that kind of size isn't the norm, he was going against a lot of guys way smaller than him. In the pros its completely different everyone is large! And not having that brute strength will hurt him when he's up against linemen his size or a few pounds under that are stronger and quicker. But he is definitely quick hell they lined him up on offense like the Fridge on the goal line.
